My name is Hannah, and I am reformed yo-yo dieter. Growing up I was a vegetarian, which saddled me with the delusion that if you don’t eat meat, you can’t be unhealthy. However, I was tipping the scales at 200 pounds at the ripe old age of 16. My diet consisted of mostly bread, pasta, and cheese. I loved fruit, but there was hardly a vegetable in sight. Between being lazy, boredom eating, and frequent binges, my health was on a dangerous downward spiral. Not only was I heavy, but my poor eating habits were wreaking havoc on my stomach, skin, and energy levels.
Believe it or not it took me awhile to realize how heavy I actually was. Once it finally occurred to me, I began my weight loss journey the same way that many people do. I starved myself, scoured the internet for the latest fad diets, and bought a stash of questionable weight loss pills. I ate less then 1200 calories a day of low quality foods, and quickly began to suffer the consequences. My hair began to fall out in chunks. I would feel faint every time I stood up, and I often felt short of breath and jittery. I lost 30 pounds this way in 2 months, but I was absolutely miserable and putting myself at great risk.
As you can imagine, this lifestyle is not a sustainable one. I went back to my old habits and gained back the weight I lost plus some extra. It wasn’t until one day when I decided to take up running that health and fitness truly began to come into focus for me. Long story short, I fell in love with running and signed up for a half marathon. I found that in order to perform my best I needed to fuel my body with nutrient wholesome foods AND consume a reasonable amount of calories for my body type and activity level.
Over the course of 1 year I went from 200 pounds down to 125. And for the past year and a half I have maintained my low weight. Through my own experiences and the knowledge I have acquired over the past 3 years, I have learned about the amazing healing power of food. I do believe you can lose weight eating fast food and processed ingredients, but by eating nutritious foods you can truly unleash your potential. With diet and exercise alone I have stopped taking medication for depression, cleared my skin, and healed my digestive issues. There is a reason that in the fitness community you will hear that fitness is 70% diet and 30% exercise.
My meal plans are EASY and packed with nutrients. (I am LAZY in the kitchen! Who wants to spend 2 hours slaving over the stove for a healthy delicious meal?) Plus they include your favorite foods like pizza, pasta, and ice cream that can become part of a sustainable life style change. The goal of meal planning is to give you a guideline of how to eat well in your every day life without preparing any fancy, expensive foods. Most importantly, they are customized for your personal needs, so that you can perform at your peak both in the gym and your everyday life.
